The evil spirit Mercurius has been trapped in a bottle for 20 years. He is able to free himself with the help of a calamitous event and proceeds to wreak havoc in the village. Not one of the villagers dares to catch the ghost, except that is for the budding doctor Sophia, who initially dropped the bottle, and the herbal apprentice Jakob.
