　　住在上海的王先生家境困难，朋友小陈的日子也过得很紧张，王先生想起在乡下自己还有几十亩祖产，索性带着家人到了乡下，在这里王先生闹出不少笑话，朱大德是当地富绅，看中了王先生的女儿阿媛，想娶她做继室。王先生为了全村向朱大德借抽水机，被迫答应把阿媛嫁给他。此时赈灾大员来到乡下，王先生发现小陈竟是赈灾大员，小陈很不满意阿媛的婚事。朱大德为了贪财偷了赈灾粮食，在阿媛的婚礼上，王先生当众揭露了朱大德私吞粮食以及阿媛被迫下嫁的事，最终阿媛的婚事被解除。
